Frequently Asked Questions
Q: If my story is accepted, will I retain my publishing rights?
A: Authors retain all rights. If accepted, you will asked to sign a contract granting the Anthology permission to publish the story under your name, but that's it. Authors are free to alter their story, submit it elsewhere, etc. It is your story.
Q: Are there any fees?
A: Submission is always free. There are never any fees.
Q: Are the authors paid?
A: Authors receive no financial compensation, nor do editors.
Q: What is the editing process like?
A: Stories that are accepted will receive two rounds of edits and a final copyedit. Editors will make comments, corrections, and suggestions—and authors respond by sending a revised draft.
Q: How many submissions to you expect, and how many stories will be published?
A: We expect to publish about 20 stories. The number of submissions has varied, sometimes as low as 60, sometimes over 100. We are casting a wide net this year and hope for many submissions.
Q: Does every editor read every submission?
A: That depends on the total number we receive. Every submission will be read and evaluated by a minimum of two editors, usually more.
Q: Is experimental prose acceptable?
A: Because of typesetting limitations, we are not able to guarantee formatting specifications. Otherwise, experimental submissions will be judged by the same criteria as conventional prose submissions.
Q: Are explicit language or scenes acceptable?
A: Our readership includes a YA audience. Once entries have been selected, editors will work with authors to veil content or suggest omissions minimally as appropriate.
